I cannot connect the sensor to our new WiFi network. What can I do?

If you have issues when setting up a new network, please take note of any specific error messages you encounter in the App. These will often indicate the cause of the issue - e.g. "5GHz network not supported".

WiFi Range

If range may be a potential issue, attempt to re-connect the sensor closer to your router. If successful, then test the connection at the tank.

2.4GHz WiFi Network

With the new WiFi network, make sure the router has 2.4GHz enabled. Some new routers may be initially set up to broadcast on 5GHz only, which will not work for the TankMate sensor. In most cases a combined 2.4GHz / 5Ghz network (single SSID) will work perfectly. To check your specific network settings, open the admin panel for your router. See further details here.

Guest Network

If the main network (SSID) is not working with the TankMate sensor, an easy workaround can often be turning on the guest network - since these usually create a standalone 2.4GHz network. This can make the connection process simpler.

Note:

  • For iOS, you will have to connect your phone temporarily to the same network you want to connect the sensor to.
  • Once a connection is established - it does not matter what network your phone is connected to. The TankMate unit connects to your WiFi network independently of the phone.

WiFi Passwords

WiFi passwords that include the $ symbol are not currently supported by some TankMate sensor versions. We recommend modifying the password, or setting up a guest network with a different password.
